First Launch & Factory Kits

The welcome flow, choosing a starter Kit, and the factory Kits that ship with GranSample.

The first time you open GranSample it greets you with a short welcome flow and asks you to pick a starter Kit, so you land in a fully loaded set of pads instead of an empty grid. Everything on this page is free.

The Welcome Flow

On first launch GranSample shows a two-page onboarding sequence:

  1. Welcome — a short overview of what the app does: the 16-pad sampler, granular synthesis, effects and mixer, the step sequencer, AUv3 plugin support, and MIDI input. Tap Get Started to continue.
  2. Pick a Vibe — a list of starter Kits to choose from. Tapping one loads it and drops you onto the pad grid.

A Skip button sits in the top corner of both pages. Skipping loads the first Kit (Late Night Room) so you always start with sound on the pads.

The welcome flow runs only once. After that the app opens straight to whatever you were last working on.

Picking a Starter Kit

Each Kit in the picker shows a name and a one-line description of its sound. Choosing a Kit fills the pad grid with samples, granular settings, per-pad volume and pan, effects, and master settings, ready to play. Nothing is locked behind Pro at this stage — you can audition the full Kit on every pad.

From there you can trigger pads, tweak granular parameters, or jump into the sample editor. Want to start from scratch instead? Load any Kit and replace pads with your own recordings or imported audio.

The Factory Kits

GranSample ships with ten factory Kits, each a curated palette of sounds with its own theme color:

KitVibe
Late Night RoomWarm beats for winding down
Outer SpaceFloating drones from another galaxy
Neon CityElectronic energy, hard-hitting drops
Forest StreamNature sounds to breathe with
Toy FactoryWeird noises, pure chaos, pure fun
Midnight DubDeep echoes from a Kingston studio
Tape MachineDusty loops from a broken sampler
Crystal CaveShimmering tones in frozen air
Sunrise ChoirVoices rising with the morning light
Dark MatterIndustrial textures from the void

Factory Kits are read-only. You can play and edit them freely, but to keep your changes you save them as your own project — the original Kit stays untouched so you can always come back to it. You’ll find all ten under Factory Kits in the Library, alongside your saved projects, so you can switch Kits anytime, not just on first launch.

The “What’s New” Dialog

After you update GranSample to a new version, a What’s New sheet appears the first time you open the app, summarizing the headline changes in that release. It shows once per version — tap Continue to dismiss it, and it won’t reappear until the next update. It’s purely informational and never changes your projects or Kits.
