Patterns & Song Mode
Eight patterns per project with quantized live switching, and Song Mode for chaining them into a full arrangement.
Every project carries eight step patterns, labelled A–H, plus a Song Mode that chains them into an arrangement. The pattern strip sits between the sequencer’s control row and the step grid, so switching patterns lives right where you edit them.
The pattern bank (A–H)
All eight slots always exist — there is nothing to create or delete. A slot with steps shows a solid chip; an empty slot shows a dashed outline. Tap any chip to make it the active pattern; the step grid below immediately shows that pattern’s steps for the selected pad.
- Switching while playing is quantized. Tap a different letter mid-playback and the chip pulses amber: the switch waits for the end of the current bar, so the groove never stumbles. Tap the same chip again before the bar ends to cancel.
- DUP copies the active pattern into the next empty slot — the quickest way to build a variation without re-programming from scratch.
- An empty slot is still a real pattern: select it and start tapping steps to fill it.
Each pattern stores every pad’s track, so pattern B can be a whole different beat, not just a different hi-hat line.
Song Mode (Pro)
Tap SONG next to the sequencer controls to flip the lane into an arrangement view. Song Mode is a GranSample Pro feature.
- Build the chain by tapping pattern letters — each tap appends an entry to the song lane. Chaining an empty pattern is allowed and plays as a rest.
- Tap an entry to edit it. An editor row appears with − / + steppers for the repeat count (×1 up to ×16), DEL to remove the entry, and DONE to close. The entry’s ×N label updates as you tap.
- Drag an entry sideways to reorder the chain.
- LOOP decides what happens at the end: loop the whole song forever, or play it once and stop.
- Press the song’s play button to run the arrangement. The playing entry shows a repeat counter and the strip highlights which pattern is sounding.
While the song is playing you can still adjust repeat counts, but removing or reordering entries waits until you stop — the arrangement you hear always matches the lane you see.
Everything saves with the project
Patterns, the song chain, and BPM are stored in the project file — save, reload, share as .gskit, or host the AUv3 in a DAW project, and the whole arrangement comes back exactly as you left it.
